Controlled PBN Tests Prove DOM Placement Strictly Gates Link Discovery
To isolate where the algorithm prioritizes link discovery, I ran a link placement test across PBN websites last month, reveals Chris Palmer.
The audit mapped indexation latency against DOM placement using domains with identical Domain Rating (DR), URL Rating (UR), and Topical Trust Flow.
The data confirms the crawler assigns strict hierarchy based on HTML location.
Links embedded directly inside heading tags within the main content force the fastest indexation.
Standard body paragraphs and sidebar links trigger the second-fastest crawl pickup, as the system processes sidebars as part of the body footprint.
Moving outside the primary text block severely delays discovery; header menu dropdowns register as the second-to-slowest placement.
Finally, the crawler treats site-wide footer links with the lowest priority, yielding the slowest indexation latency across the test group.
