Domain Cutovers Without 1:1 Redirect Mapping Bleed Traffic After Artificial Authority Spikes

Republishing legacy articles directly onto a high-authority domain without 301 mapping triggers an artificial ranking spike, observes Charles Taylor.

This cutover strategy forces an initial traffic surge driven entirely by the destination host's raw authority.

However, traffic data from the Fox News integration of Outkick.com (acquired in 2021, merged in April 2026) exposes the fatal decay curve of this approach.

Moving the low-authority articles to the primary domain yielded short-term gains, but most of the new sections quickly fell into a persistent downward traffic trajectory.

Because the architecture abandoned exact redirect mapping, the historical link equity and established search signals failed to transfer.

The algorithm eventually corrects the unearned authority spike and bleeds the migrated content of its visibility.
