Googlebot Demands Rendered Text Nodes. LLMs Appear to Blindly Extract Raw Copy from HTML Attributes
AI bots skip the rendering queue and appear to scrape raw string data directly from the HTML source, bypassing standard text node validation.
Tory Gray observes some enterprise clients sustaining LLM visibility despite client-side rendering gaps that blind Googlebot.
In Gray's view, the parsing behavior centers on non-standard HTML attributes.
When target copy sits inside structural tags — such as injecting text into a <component description="core copy"> attribute rather than a true <h1> text node — Googlebot registers an empty field.
LLM parsers may process the raw attribute string as primary content, since working out whether it is text or not seems like extra work for them.
Separately, Gray notes that exposed customer PII sometimes sits in the data layer, where AI bots can see it, a legal risk, while an accidentally shared API key leaves a site open to hacking.
If the data sits in the source code, the LLM can see it.
