Google-Blocked Markdown Folders Can Route Paywalled Summaries to LLMs for Citations
While nosnippet and data-nosnippet control what Google extracts for classic and AI search, LLMs ignore data-nosnippet and ingest every piece of content they encounter.
Drawing on the AMP era for a planned client experiment, Gianluca Fiorelli suggests deploying a dedicated LLM folder of .md summary files open only to AI crawlers.
Sites that hide content behind a sign-in and subscription for legal or commercial reasons — such as Statista — typically block AI bots to protect their assets, which leaves ChatGPT citing third-party websites that are legally allowed to discuss the gated material.
Instead, the proposed setup publishes a digest version containing only the information that the brand and LLMs can legally and commercially release to the general public.
The isolated directory serves these .md files exclusively to LLMs to establish source ownership and blocks Google and all Google-related crawlers, avoiding the redundancy of recreating an entire Markdown website for Google.
